#whoops!
Dear Mr. Allred,
I’d like to take a moment to respond to your tweets. Though I must ask forgiveness in advance, as this will require far more characters than 140.
I won’t spend too much time disputing your accusations because I have already spent 10 years building a reputation in this community that takes care of that.
What I believe warrants further discussion are the implications found within your accusations. While no one was persuaded that I am actually a “fucking ignorant slut who clearly knows zip about how government works,” you did a fine job of exposing just how you think government works.
In 285 characters, you made clear racism and bigotry are alive and well here in Oklahoma City. You also left no doubt in the minds of all of Twitter, Facebook and The Lost Ogle readers that your knowledge of how government works is far superior than that of anyone who believes all people deserve a fundamental amount of respect simply because they are human.
I find it terrifying that as a lobbyist you are in daily contact with those making laws that will affect my community because attitudes like yours are everything that is wrong with politics today. There is a division between the aisle so vast no issues can actually get resolved, and no one is winning. I believe progress is way less dependent on who is in leadership and more dependent on our willingness as a community to work together. It’s time to put aside buzzwords, gross mischaracterizations and personal agendas. Let’s all play in the same sandbox, Mr. Allred. I promise you won’t combust and you might actually learn something.
My disappointment in our leaders’ behavior on Wednesday had nothing to do with my politics-and everything to do with my pride in Oklahoma City and my desire for the world to begin taking us seriously as something other than the backwoods simpletons we are so often categorized.
Your tweets were heard loud and clear around the state and beyond. In case you missed it, the response was outrage at your evident disregard for those you deem inferior and your keen ability to assess our asymmetry, based on a two word tweet.
I’ll say it again. “Wow. Embarrassing.”
